# What is a sub-account, and how do I create a sub-account?

Sub-accounts are just "buckets" or "envelopes" for separating the main account user's metal.  The sub-account is wholly owned and managed by the parent account; the sub-account does not constitute ownership by anyone other than the parent/master account.  If a member dies, the beneficiaries receive full ownership of the account, including all its sub-accounts.

To create a sub-account, click on the down arrow next to your name in the navigation bar and you will see the option to add a sub-account or switch to a sub-account that has already been created.
