# Can I sign up for the ambassador program if I don't have a Tax ID?

To comply with IRS reporting requirements, a valid **Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)** is required to participate in the Ambassador program and receive rewards.

* **For U.S. Residents:** This is typically your **Social Security Number (SSN)** or an **Employer Identification Number (EIN)** if you are signing up as a business.
* **For Non-U.S. Residents:** You will need to provide your local **Foreign Tax ID** and complete a **W-8BEN form**.

Because Ambassador rewards (the 1% metal and $100 gold upgrade) are considered taxable income once they reach a certain threshold, we are legally required to have this information on file before rewards can be issued to your vault. If you do not have a Tax ID, you can still use a standard SoundMoney account to buy and store metal, but you will not be eligible to earn referral rewards.
